Council Information

General Information

The Elizabeth Barrett School Council provides a great deal of support to the teachers and students at Elizabeth Barrett.  Parents are an integral part of the decision-making process.  All parents are invited to attend School Council meetings which are held monthly at the school.

Mission Statement

The Elizabeth Barrett School Council is dedicated to facilitating a partnership between all Educational Stakeholders that promotes excellence, personal and academic growth, fostering the development of a positive attitude and a desire for lifelong learning.

Belief Statement

We believe that:

  • Parents act as mentors and positive role models for the students.
  • Interested and actively involved parents enhance educational experience and learning process.
  • There needs to be an attitude of mutual respect between parents, students and staff.
  • Parents and staff collaborate to achieve the common goal of excellence in education that students work to the best of their individual ability.
  • Parents help to ensure that the school environment is safe and nurturing for the students.
  • Parents and staff should assist students in developing a sense of community.

Objectives

The objectives of the School Council, in keeping with the School Act and the School Council Regulations of the Province of Alberta and the Policies and Procedures of Rocky View School Division #41, are as follows:

  • To facilitate a common vision for the School;
  • To advise the Principal on matters relating to the School such as school philosophy, programs and directions, and budget allocation in order to meet the student needs;
  • To advise the School Board of matters related to the school, in cooperation with the Principal;
  • To support the school in its efforts to focus teachers’ time and school resources on the essential tasks of teaching and learning;
  • To encourage involvement by all members of the School Community;
  • To facilitate collaboration among all members of the School Community;
  • To facilitate communication among all members of the School Community;
  • To support an approach to schooling in which decisions are made collaboratively and whenever possible at the school and classroom level;
  • To coordinate fundraising activities in the School.

Meeting Information

Our meetings are held most months during the school year at often at 6:30 pm in the learning commons. Exact dates vary from year to year. We would love to see you there!!

2024-25 Meeting Dates Unless otherwise noted, meetings start at 6:30 pm on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. We generally meet in the Learning Commons.
