Literacy Tutors

Right to Read

"Right to Read" is a literacy program which was established at Elizabeth Barrett in September 2007.   It is an Early Literacy initiative that recognizes the value of having trained volunteers encouraging and supporting children as they learn to read.  Literacy tutoring is an intervention that supplements regular classroom instruction.    If you have 1-2 hours a week to support readers at our school we hope you will consider joining our Literacy Tutor team this year working in the highly successful ‘Right to Read’ program.  You do not need any special skills, just lots of heart, dedication and commitment—all training is provided!

Rewards of tutoring:

  • learn new skills;
  • meet new people and build lasting friendships,
  • be part of a team that helps children develop confidence and literacy skills,
  • learn tools and strategies that will help you with your own child’s learning needs
  • as a caring adult and a reading role model, you can help a child experience reading success.
